"on the board"

Hey everyone,
It's Marijo dictating tonight. Bryan had a very active day today and was dog-tired by the time 8:30 rolled around, so I will fill you all in.
Bryan is "on the board" for surgery tomorrow. So what that means is that he is scheduled in for surgery, but can be bumped by critical patients that come in. Bryan used to bump others off the board because he was in critical condition prior to this, so now because this operation is not considered critical at this moment in time, others can bump him. So let's all hope that he doesn't get bumped.
This operation is one he has had before. They will re-open the wound on his main hip amputation and "irrigate" the wound - a fancy way of saying they are going to clean it out and remove any dead tissue or anything that looks like infection. Even though it is a bit of a setback to have to have surgery again, it is a good thing to have them in there one more time to clean everything out and ensure there are no "bugs" lurking in the wound that could cause havoc. It will be a quick operation and most likely happen in the afternoon. A doctor we refer to as "Dr. Blunt", will be doing the surgery. He was our original surgeon and knows Bryan's case intimately.
There are a lot of positive's to tomorrow that we can all concentrate on, instead of getting down-in-the-mouth: Bryan is 100% stronger and healthier than he was going into any of his other surgeries, his temperature has been normal all day today, this heart rate is elevated, but it's not anywhere near as high as it has been in the past, the doctor's all know him and his case really well, all of his other extremities are healing very well and so are not taxing his healing process, Bryan reacts very well to anesthetic and comes out of it very nicely and for the most part - Bryan is in good spirits and having many good days.
So, anyone who prays - pray. Anyone who doesn't normally (Kinger) - pray.
Onto other things: Our occupational therapist whom we both adore (Kim Smith), has fashioned some fancy tools for Bryan so when he recovers from OR he will be eating and drinking and brushing his teeth and typing on his own, or with a little assistance. This is a huge deal and one that not only will give him a bit more freedom and dignity, but also will strengthen his remaining hand just by nature of using it for everyday tasks. This is critical for Bryan's future independence.
His muscle in his leg and arms is slowly coming back, we have regular wrestles while doing physio as he slowly regains his strength over me. His balance is great and he can sit up now for long periods of time on his own before getting tired.
So - onwards and upwards. Tomorrow is a new day. Hang tight everyone. Thank you for your continuing support and words of encouragement - as always - it is much appreciated. The best part of Bryan's day is reading emails and blog comments - so keep 'em coming. We have lots of food at the moment, so if you come visit, please hold off on any food for now. We'll let you know if that changes.
