Update on Bryan

Hi everyone,
It's Marijo tonight. Just a quick update on Bryan:
We have had a bit of a scare the past 24 hours. Bryan and I went into emergency last night about this time to check out why his heart rate was 125 bpm and his breathing had become laboured. It turned out to be a complication with Bryan's heart. In layman's terms, the sac that surrounds his heart (pericardial sac) was filled to it's maximum with over a litre of blood (picture a bag of milk). This had caused undue pressure on his heart and put him in a very unstable position.  The doctors at Belleville General acted quickly and this afternoon performed a procedure to remove the blood from the sac. He is resting comfortably in hospital this evening and should be out by Monday. Very scary for all of us, but thankfully it was a quick solution and we should be back to normal by early next week.

Below is a 5 minute video of Bryan's journey so far that we used for a talk Bryan gave this past few weeks at P&G to the 600 people that work there. We will be posting the actual talk in a few days but thought you could enjoy this video first.

Warning: Some graphic photos, not appropriate for children or those that get queasy.

  2. Hi Bryan and Marijo,
You've been on my mind all week, so thanks to Google, I found your site and got caught up. The speech was beautiful and this last video was so powerful - talk about the courage to confront where the rubber hits the road. And then to look beyond yourself, passing on the lion to another that needed courage, taking that picture of all those supporters, doing it all with a full and generous heart!
Thank you for setting up and maintaining this site. Let's just bask a minute in all this encouragement . . and then we'll get back to rehab, cause someone keeps telling me to never give up!!

  3. Bryan,
I wish you and your family all the best in the New Year. I want to thank you for truly being an inspiration to me. The past few years have been tough for me in every way.....but to read your story of strength and courage has helped me to realize that life is truly about taking one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. My motto has always been the same, "resilience in the face of adversity". You make me aware that no matter what those adversities are, we have the power to fight them. We may not always win, but the best we can do is fight the fight. I am sorry for what you have had to endure, but we have to deal with what we are handed, no matter how tough it gets. What inspires me is that you haven't given up. I remember seeing you on the market this past summer, and thinking to myself that God puts ordinary people in this world like myself, but he also places extraordinary people in the world like you. May God give you the strength to face the coming year...and may you get stronger with every passing day. Thank you....for being an inspiration to me. Bev
